Being the first MUN conference of the academic year, Oxford International Model United Nations (OxIMUN) has proven to be a great initial goal for the UUMUN delegation to live up to. Since 2010, UUMUN attends this prestigious European MUN, which pushes our delegates to bring the soft and MUN skills they have acquired during the first months of training, into practice. The UUMUN delegation partakes in a multitude of committees; from DiSec, to EcoFin, and many more. All delegates prepare a position paper, in which they clarify their allocated member state’s position, which they will fight for at Oxford. Every year the delegation returns home with a lot of great memories, useful experiences and many prizes.
Harvard National Model United Nations, or HNMUN, is traditionally the final MUN which UUMUN partakes in. Within the MUN community, Harvard National is widely considered to be the most competitive MUN in the world. Here, just as in Oxford, UUMUN takes part in many different UN committees, often as duo delegates, and incidentally as single delegates. Here, the committee size differs greatly between committees. More spcialized ones consist of 40-80 people, but the larger General Assembly committees can be filled by more than 180 people, bringing a true competitive challenge to the delegates. Long days of lobbying, negotiating, speeching, and socializing at one of the most prestigious universities in the world; a true final test for the yearly UUMUN delegation, where UUMUN won many prizes over her almost 2 decade long history.
2020 was the first year UUMUN partook in the Montreal MUN. The MUN was fully digital, which was also a first for the Utrecht delegation! The challenges of the Corona Crisis did not stop the delegation from testing their skills with and against people from more than 70 different countries. In 2020, the 16th delegation of UUMUN won 9 prizes, among which the prestigious Best Delegation Award, out of more than 500 participants!
Athens International Model United Nations (LIMUN)
The Leirion International Model United Nations in Athens Greece will be first attended by the 17th delegation in 2021. This (physical) conference attracts 400 participants from across the world engaging in the world of speeching, lobbying, resolution writing, and debating. The conference thanks the name Leirion to the alternative library and art place founded in 2017 in Athens. The library has a vision to promote books, art, and innovative educational methods.
