Founded in 2005 by a group of ambitious students with a shared interest in and passion for diplomacy, Utrecht University Model United Nations (UUMUN) has the goal to advance the study of international questions and spark debate among students from all kinds of different study backgrounds regarding international pressing issues. Every year since it foundation, a new delegation consisting of 17 students is formed which together will represent Utrecht University at two international Model United Nations (MUN) conferences: the MUN of Oxford University in November and Harvard University in February. The UUMUN delegation comes together twice a week to train and improve their soft skills and knowledge on global issues and by doing that, prepares itself to attend these two highly competitive MUNs. 

Besides this, UUMUN aims to enhance the engagement of Utrecht University students with international topics. The delegation cooperates with the Utrecht University, the government, corporate firms and NGOs’ to organise events which are attractive for students. UUMUN does not only focus on the bachelor and master student. They also give masterclasses to high school students interested in Model United Nations or guide debates at their high school MUNs as chair.  The most important goal for the events we hosts is to give attendees food for thought and open the floor for debate. 

UUMUN has made a name for itself amongst ambitious students from Utrecht. The intensive training program in a wide range of soft skills such as presenting, speeching, lobbying, and negotiating and doing this together with a group of ambitious students makes a year at UUMUN unique. Besides the training part, UUMUN has proven to be a great way to get to know new persons outside your own study which will grow into close friends during a year as delegate. Furthermore, once your year at UUMUN comes to an end this does definitely not mean UUMUN does as well. The elaborate group of our alumni is characterized by a strong engagement with the foundation. The expertise that these alumni have obtained during their time at UUMUN as well as throughout their careers after UUMUN, is passed on with a lot of attention to the younger delegations to enhance their experience at UUMUN!
