- UUMUN x Sustainability
Uumun x Sustainabilitily
Among the external policies of UUMUN, ‘Sustainability’ deserves explicit mention. UUMUN is highly aware of the urgent global problem of climate change and its dramatic societal implications. Therefore, to mitigate our carbon footprint as much as possible, all chosen policies are examined through a lens of sustainability. Concretely this means the following:
- For all our trips, both nationally and internationally, the most sustainable means of transport will be chosen. This mainly comes down to utilizing public transport both nationally and for our trip to Oxford in autumn. a. For our milestone of the year, participating at the prestigious HNMUN in Boston (United States), we are forced to travel by plane. However, money is being spared to spend on sustainable initiatives to compensate for our inevitable carbon emissions.
- Regarding our collaboration policies with corporates, governmental bodies or NGOs, the sustainable reputation of each actor will be carefully assessed. At all times, UUMUN will emphasise their independence and objectivity; open for a (critical) dialogue with all stakeholders of the entire width of society. a. If necessary, UUMUN will decide to withhold from receiving any financial aid when collaborating with a particular (controversial) actor – to elucidate our academic independence openly.
3. With respect to our internal daily operations, the board and all delegates pay close attention to sustainability. Sustainability is brought to the table at all times, considering it among all policy decisions. Additionally, a yearly report and multi-annual plan to ensure the long- term viability of UUMUN is being constructed – and its contribution to mitigating carbon dioxide emissions is hereby being followed through.
