The day will start at 09:30 and end with a lunch from 12:30-14:00. During the day, we will discuss ‘dealing with the major energy transition challenges of our time in the context of the energy trilemma’. In the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war, it is most important to discuss not only our goals and obligations of sustainability, but also the energy trilemma, meaning sustainability, security, and affordability. During the COP27 this week, African nations mentioned that they could not ‘adapt’ to the climate crisis, as the crises they are facing are so immense that they cannot overcome them theirselves. What is climate security then, and who is affordable? And in the face of ever-rising oil- and gas prices, who makes sure there is a certain affordability for each EU-citizen – whilst concurrently switching to alternative, clean and cheap energy?
